ETC ANNOUNCES NEW FLIGHT TRAINING DEVICE.
Environmental Tectonics Corporation, Southampton, PA (AMEX: "ETC") a world leader in the design, manufacture and installation of systems used for aircrew training, medical research and testing, announces the newest addition to the Gyro family of low cost, dynamic training systems - the General Aviation Trainer (GAT II).
The GAT II is a multi-purpose flight training device that replicates a single engine training aircraft. The unique 3-axis motion system combined with high-resolution instrument and out-the-window displays creates a realistic flight environment that is usually found only on more expensive flight simulators. Also, as more and more studies determine that pilot disorientation is a primary cause of many fatal General Aviation aircraft accidents, the GAT II provides profiles (scenarios) to teach pilots to recognize entry into a disorientating situation (Spatial Disorientation) and the corrective actions to properly recover to safe flight conditions.
Most affordable flight training devices have, until now, featured instrument training, limited basic flight training and, only in some cases, a limited visual display. By contrast. The GAT II supports basic flight training, has a state-of-the-art instrument navigation training system and the ability to provide motion cues as a result of pilot input. In addition, according to ETC's President, William F. Mitchell, "The GAT II does what no other general aviation trainer can do; - provide the ability to teach the approach to, recognition of and recovery from spatially disorientating situations. General Aviation pilots can now receive pilot disorientation training that has been formerly available only to military pilots."
Environmental Tectonics Corporation is the worlds largest manufacturer of centrifugal flight simulators. Centrifugal flight simulators are used to evaluate pilot reactions during high G forces such as the high G forces encountered during actual flight maneuvers. The company produces the G-FET High-G Flight Environment Trainer - a multi-axis human centrifuge, the G-LABŪ - high G-Onset Training Centrifuge and the Gyro IPT Integrated Physiological Training System as well as other Aircrew Training Systems.
"We are very proud of the GAT II and feel that this exciting new training device will enable flight schools the ability to supply the value-added training necessary to produce the safest pilots possible", Mr. Mitchell said.
First deliveries are scheduled this summer and the GAT II demonstrator unit will be "on the road" around the country at various air shows, flight schools and conventions (including the AOPA EXPO 98 in Palm Springs 22-25 October).
