Southampton, PA: July 25, 2007 - Environmental Tectonics Corporation (AMEX: ETC) ("ETC" or the "Company") today announced the award of a U. S. Navy research contract to develop an F/A-18C Tactical Aircraft Configuration Module (TACModule) to support tactical training research in ETC's Authentic Tactical Fighting System - 400 (ATFS-400™) high performance human centrifuge.
The sole source contract, with a total value of over one million dollars, will fund a 12-month program to develop a TACModule in the F/A-18C configuration. This TACModule is planned to be used in the ATFS-400, located at ETC's National AeroSpace Training and Research (NASTARSM) Center, to support follow-on research and development as a tactical training simulator, subject to available out-year funding. This research will be conducted in cooperation with the Human Systems Division, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).
The TACModule is a full-featured high-fidelity flight simulator, including a customized visual database, an aircraft-specific aeromodel, and a user-defined virtual battlespace. Authentic flight controls, cockpit indicators, aircrew seat and harness, and a state-of -the-art visual display place the pilot in a highly realistic environment. Multiple TACModules can be data linked for multi-ship operations in the same virtual battlespace to support Distributed Mission Simulation. When installed in the ATFS-400, the TACModule supports realistic, sustained G flight training for combat aviators. The TACModule can also function in a stand-alone mode when not installed in the ATFS-400.
The ATFS-400 is the latest generation of ETC Tactical Flight Simulators. Using a high performance human centrifuge as a motion platform, it combines the latest available flight simulation technology to optimize flight fidelity including sustained G cues. This technology includes high fidelity aircraft specific cockpits; offensive and defensive mission systems; realistic, wide field of view visual displays; and virtual battle space. Pilots will practice critical combat skills in a safe, controlled and economical environment with realism that is rivaled only by actually flying the aircraft.
Mr. Dick Leland, President of NASTAR Center, stated, "ETC is very proud to be working with NAVAIR on this very important project. The TACModule's potential to enhance defense readiness and reduce training costs while extending combat aircraft service life is truly exciting."
ETC will perform the research at the NASTAR Center located in Southampton, Pennsylvania. NASTAR Center is a full service facility that offers a complete range of aviation and space training and research support services.
