SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Environmental
Tectonics Corporation's (Amex: ETC) Simulation Division, located in Orlando,
FL, today announced the acceptance of the multi-million dollar Incident
Command and Driving Simulator located at Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
ETC was selected by the City of Chicago to produce a comprehensive
training system to allow its fire department personnel based at one of the
busiest airports in the world -- O'Hare International-- to train for aircraft
incidents and driver training involving safety and security-related incidents.
The simulator training facility at O'Hare International is the first of
its kind in the world to be located at an airport. Along with state-of-the-
art computerized training stations which will be used by the airport emergency
response personnel, the system is also equipped with a virtual reality-based
full scale simulator that allows for a real-time experience of real-life-like
aircraft incidents involving fire, hazmat and other disasters. ETC utilized
its Advanced Disaster Management Simulator (ADMS) technology to construct
this advanced training facility for the Department of Aviation. Using the
ADMS training system the airport can involve an entire team of emergency
response personnel in practicing the communications and coordination skills
between departments and organizations while interacting with the virtual
incident and making their own decisions, as they would at a real incident.
The training center is also capable of training the fire and law enforcement
personnel for terrorist incidents.
This multi-year contract, which includes installation, training and
options for long-term maintenance and equipment enhancement, makes Chicago
O'Hare International Airport a world leader in the field of Aircraft Rescue
Fire Fighting (ARFF) training and adds its name to an elite list of ETC's
airport customers that already include Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nashville
International, Honolulu International, Baltimore/Washington International and
Orlando Sanford International.
Shabbir Merchant, President of the Simulation Division, stated, "With more
than 400 airports in the U.S. airport system alone, ETC believes Chicago
O'Hare, the second busiest airport in the world according to Airport Council
International statistics on passenger throughput, will not only pave the way
to the future of how ARFF training is conducted at airports but also provide
an example for all other airports to follow. Considering the unfortunate
terrorist events we have been exposed to all over the world, the vision of
Chicago O'Hare was not only timely but also extremely proactive in pursuit of
Homeland Defense initiatives."
ETC designs, develops, installs, and maintains aircrew training systems,
public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and
environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing, homeland
security and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and
international customers.
