SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., July 1, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation (AMEX: ETC) today announced development of the GYROFLIGHT Advanced Tactical Flight Simulator.
The GYROFLIGHT is a fully interactive flight simulator for training high performance aircraft pilots. As a complete training system, the GYROFLIGHT supports initial and recurrent training in tactical flight maneuvers (air to air and air to ground operations), instrument and navigation procedures, emergency procedures, and situational awareness. The GYROFLIGHT also supports training in high-risk flight maneuvers, including aircraft upset recovery, spins, and stalls - all in a safe, controlled learning environment. Low operating costs, versatility, and realism make the GYROFLIGHT the best value choice for a full motion flight trainer.
The GYROFLIGHT features the latest available simulation technology. Wide field of view visual displays with real world out-the-window scenery; realistic engine and flight sounds; full function aircraft cockpit with closed-loop flight controls; and a high fidelity aeromodel replicate the flight and performance characteristics of any customer-designated aircraft. Force feedback control loading is included to provide the pilot with the most realistic flight experience short of flying an actual aircraft. The cockpit can be configured as a single seat, high performance fighter aircraft or as a two-seat helicopter and can be re-configured by the customer in a matter of minutes.
The high fidelity cockpit is mounted on an electromechanical motion system that includes a quantum advance in high fidelity motion cueing capability and was invented by ETC specifically to support tactical flight training. Conventional six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DoF) motion systems provide only transient motion cues that unrealistically help a pilot "fly" the simulator. By contrast, the GYROFLIGHT motion system stimulates the pilot with both continuous (yaw) and transient (pitch roll, heave) plus coupled (sway and surge) motions simultaneously. The GYROFLIGHT also incorporates ETC's patented technology in sub-threshold motion science. No other motion system provides this kind of precise cueing to stress the pilot in a manner that authentically replicates actual flight experience.
The GYROFLIGHT features a full-function Instructor station with a state of the art Window-based Graphic User Interface. The instructor can call up any of the fully automated training profiles provided by ETC or, using the Interactive Profile Editor, can create and store new training profiles to expose the pilot to realistic high performance aircraft in-flight situations. Additionally, the instructor can introduce inputs "on the fly" to multi-task the pilot during any training session, including weather changes, instrument failures, system failures, and motion inputs. The GYROFLIGHT can also support multi-ship mission rehearsal using prerecorded formation profiles or by allowing an instructor to fly another formation aircraft in real time from the instructor console. Also, multiple GYROFLIGHT's can be data linked to support multi-ship training. All flights can be recorded and replayed.
William F. Mitchell, ETC's President and CEO, in commenting on the GYROFLIGHT, said "ETC continues to redefine the simulation paradigm by developing and fielding the latest in high fidelity, low cost simulation and training technology. The GYROFLIGHT represents a break through technology that allows the air forces of the world to have affordable high fidelity total flight simulation with full motion, wide field of view real world visuals, and high fidelity aeromodels."
ETC designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems, (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
