Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC) Wins Major International Order for Its BARA-MED(R) Monoplace Hyperbaric Chamber
November. 22, 2002
SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation (Amex: ETC) today announced that Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway, has awarded it a contract to supply four BARA-MED(R) monoplace chambers. The order, worth approximately $500,000, requires ETC to deliver, install, and commission the chambers, and then provide operator training to hospital staff. Haukeland is the premier teaching hospital in Norway and has been designated as the national center for hyperbaric medicine.

Each chamber supplied will be fitted with integral fluid penetrations and electrical couplings that allow patient support and monitoring functions to be connected quickly and easily. They will also support real-time transcutaneous oxygen monitoring (TcPO2) from multiple sites which has proven useful in optimizing care for patients with problem wounds. In addition, one of the chambers will be fitted out to give full critical care capability and will incorporate ETC's new "BARA-VENT" Hyperbaric Ventilator which is currently undergoing final clinical trials.

Michael W. Allen, Vice President of ETC's BioMedical Systems Group, said: "This is a major triumph for us because the contract was won in the face of stiff international competition. We have worked closely with the client to ensure they will get the exact capabilities they want. This is made possible because we have the most advanced monoplace chamber in the world with the ability to tailor systems for special needs built into it. We have also put together an ongoing program that will ensure independent technical support is available locally, in Bergen as it happens. We will also provide in-depth technical training for a suitably qualified hospital technician thus ensuring our ability to provide rapid, comprehensive product support at all times.

"ETC is very active both in the United States and overseas. In all locations, the approach of our BioMedical System Group to its customers is the same. We give them high-quality products that fit their needs, develop ongoing relationships with the facility to help them provide the best standard of care, and stand behind our products at all times."

ETC's BARA-MED(R) monoplace hyperbaric chamber offers the most cost- effective way for a hospital to put together a hyperbaric service covering all facets from basic wound care to critical care. Such a service can be set up at minimal cost and easily extended as patient load demands, thus ensuring that income and expenditure can be closely matched to maximize return on investment.

ETC (the "Company") designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
