Southampton, PA. October 10, 2002: ENVIRONMENTAL TECTONICS CORPORATION (AMEX:ETC), and it's wholly-owned subsidiary Entertainment Technology Corporation (EnTCo), are pleased to announce the formation of the Safety Systems Institute (SSI). SSI currently services the Critical Safety Design and Analysis needs of both organizations.
SSI has been working with several large customers to develop a better understanding of their hazards, particularly with regard to large critical and complex systems. SSI's proven methodology has been applied to a variety of applications, and most recently on a large project for a major entertainment industry client. SSI's methodology is based on a variety of internationally recognized standards from the UK Defence Standards (DEFSTANS), U.S. Military Standards, DIN Standards and other internationally recognized regulatory standards.
What differentiates SSI from other safety consulting services is its focus on the interaction of an entire system, unlike the more common regulatory compliance audits. While SSI performs those types of audits as well, they go beyond this by approaching safety from a "systems" perspective. SSI uses a top-down methodology designed to self-scope the detailed analysis work in order to optimize both safety and efficiency. System safety takes a larger view of random and systemic failures and identifies key design issues that need to be addressed. SSI also has analysis tools to provide bottom-up reliability & availability predictions to balance the safety, reliability and availability of mission-critical systems.
System safety emphasizes a structured approach to defining a safety criterion (tolerable levels of risk), hazard identification, mitigation and verification. Depending on the project's criticality, use and potential for loss, a qualitative and/or quantitative study could drastically reduce the potential for loss (be it financial, property, loss of life or reputation…). As a result, SSI's clients obtain a more thorough evaluation of their safety risks and a more comprehensive risk minimization strategy, whether this is performed on existing systems, or on a newly designed system.
Please visit EnTCo at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions 2002 convention in Orlando, Florida in booth 720 on November 20th to 23rd.
ETC also designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
