ENVIRONMENTAL TECTONICS CORPORATION - Press Release
ENVIRONMENTAL TECTONICS CORPORATION Announces it has Received a Contract for A General Aviation Trainer (GAT-II®) from the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO
November 12, 2001
Southampton, PA: November 12, 2001-Environmental Tectonics Corporation (Amex: ETC) announced today a contract award for the GAT-II® from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) has awarded Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC) a contract for the GAT-II® (General Aviation Trainer). ETC won the contract, which was offered as a public tender and will be working closely with the USAFA to customize their GAT-II® to meet specific USAFA training needs. The USAFA GAT-II® will support training for three different aircraft; the Cessna 172, the JPATS, and a generic, light utility helicopter. Additionally, ETC will add medical monitoring and Closed Circuit TV and Video Recording capabilities to support USAFA research activities. The combination of the GAT-II®'s basic features and the USAFA customizations make it the most advanced and versatile training device currently available.

The GAT-II® will be delivered in approximately 120 days to Headquarters USAFA Biology Department (Air and Space Life Sciences) where it will be primarily used to teach cadets to recognize and avoid Spatial Disorientation. Providing this hands-on interactive aviation safety training early in the pilots' flying training can produce significant benefits in safety and risk management skills development. Since the GAT-II® is a uniquely versatile trainer, it can also be used to supplement the cadets' basic and instrument flight training.

Lt. Col. Tim Byrne, Deputy Director Academic Operations, Biology Department said that he was “excited about the acquisition of the GAT-II® because it added to the departments capability to educate future USAF officers”. Additionally, plans for the GAT-II® include supporting aviation physiology research projects by cadets as well as collaborative research efforts with USAF Laboratories at Brooks AFB, TX and Wright Patterson AFB, OH.

The GAT-II® features a state-of-the-art instrumentation navigation training system and motion base capable of providing three-axis motion cues resulting from pilot input (roll, pitch, and yaw). The impressive real world visual display offers a photo-realistic terrain database and selectable meteorological conditions. The GAT-II® simulates cockpit controls, instrument displays, and motion/flight characteristics to provide highly realistic training for Spatial Disorientation, Unusual attitude Recovery, Basic Flight and Instrument / Navigation.

ETC also designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers. ETC is listed on the AMEX under the stock symbol “ETC”.
