SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation's (Amex: ETC) Biomedical Systems Division (BMS) announced today that it was awarded a major contract to supply 15 of its unique BARA-MED(R) clinical monoplace chambers to one of the largest healthcare providers in Japan.
Working in close co-operation with its Japanese distributor, Koike Medical Co., Ltd., in Tokyo, ETC competed for and won the contract in the face of very stiff competition from other US and Japanese manufacturers.
William F. Mitchell, ETC's President and Chairman, noted that, "We believe this is quite possibly the largest single contract with short-term delivery requirements ever awarded for clinical monoplace hyperbaric chambers anywhere in the world. The fact that we have been able to capture such a large percentage of the annual Japanese market from deeply entrenched competitors is indicative of the reputation ETC has developed for the quality and technical capability of our clinical hyperbaric equipment."
To further improve its position as a leading provider in the acute-care market, the Biomedical Systems Division will shortly begin clinical trials with a new hyperbaric ventilator that has been specially developed for use with the BARA-MED(R). In addition, BMS is developing QUEST(TM), a new chamber that is specifically aimed at meeting the needs of the rapidly expanding non-acute/wound care market in outpatient and freestanding clinic settings. The design concepts used in the QUEST(TM) unit are based on many years of experience in the practical application of hyperbaric medicine and chamber design.
These and future planned initiatives are part of ETC's carefully programmed expansion into the global hyperbaric market.
ETC designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
